Ho Chi Minh trip 2012 // Wedding bells

You should be aware by now that I came to Ho Chi Minh to attend a wedding , in a village .

It was Bryan's brother , J's wedding on the second day . We woke up as early as 7am and I was starting to appreciate Singapore's humid weather . The unbearable heat seriously wasn't helping as it would be a really busy long day for us . I was still , very grumpy and whiny with the sweetheart boyfriend pacifying me every chance he gets .

Moving on to some happy news , the wedding was very grand despite being in a village .

// Fact of the day - Roosters DO NOT only do their wake up call "Cocka-doo" in the morning .
It was only until living in the rural that I realized , these roosters are hell noisy anytime of the day .
With the poorly constructed hotel rooms with no sound proof at all , the roosters were my lullaby every night  during bed time .

The temple visiting and praying lasted the entire morning , and I seriously think the morning lasted forever . In village terms , get used to the slow time passing there . I could count every second that past and even after an eventful morning doing so much , it was just 3 hours that past .

We travelled in a horse carriage like kings , parading on the streets in the village vicinity , visited two temples , prayed a long time with all traditional rituals for a Vietnamese wedding ( Quite an eye opener I must say ) , passed by schools and realizing how lucky we are back in Singapore ( So torn down , I can't even comprehend ) , parading back to the bride's house via a mini flooding back alley . The horse carriages were shaky and unstable with the horse trying to keep its balance , we were really afraid we would fall into the mud bath .

Back in the bride's home with the food caterers ready to start serving our lunch spread . With the amount of food you see in the picture ( and more not photographed ) , this is already a very grand wedding for a villager . And also finally a picture with the boyfriend clad in traditional Vietnamese best men costume .

And after going through so many traditional customary , it was just half a day gone . Time literally crawls when you live in a village .

We strolled around in the village with the boys all tipsy after so much booze . It is Vietnamese men's culture to booze anytime of the day , usually in the day . Especially when there is a wedding going on , boozing usually gets out of control . So we happen to pass by a family business , making noodles . The boys went frenzy and started to play with flour ... and I got dragged into the flour game .

I'm getting used to it by the end of Day two . The sun , the heat , the dirt , the people , the foreign language I don't understand , the darkness at night with no lights . But one thing for sure , definitely not the rooster's calls . Bryan rode a motorcycle ( living the Vietnamese way ) , and took me to tour around the village in complete darkness with no street lamps . That have got to be the best moment throughout the trip .

love ,
sheryl
